Congratulations to Jack O’Connor who was presented with the Willie Blumberg Memorial Award at the High School Boys End of Season Celebration on Saturday June 26th by John Sutherland.

The Willie Blumberg Memorial Award acknowledges a senior player form the High School boys program, voted on by the players, for having given his all at training and each match; for being an active member of the club, who has shown exemplary sportsmanship and is the personification of a great all-around player and individual.

In 2003, the family of one of the Lions founding members, David Levin, wanted to dedicate an award to the living memory of David’s uncle, Willie Blumberg. In his youth, Willie, like many South Africans, enjoyed playing school rugby and in his later years was an equally avid armchair supporter. It is for these reasons that the Levin family was motivated to dedicate the award to a Morris Lion as a way of honoring the memory of David’s late Uncle.
