Inductees into the Hall of Fame are someone who embodies the Morris Rugby ideal and includes not only outstanding players but people who are known to have contributed in a way that strengthens and positively impact the club. Nominees include Players, Coaches, Referees, or non-players including all volunteers. The people selected go through a process of nomination and selection by the Board of Trustees.
2022 Hall of Fame Inductees
John Sutherland – John began playing with the men’s team and still plays with the masters to this day. He was one of the founders of the High School Boys team in 2002 and continued as coach for about 15 years before finally stepping down as head coach. John is a current member of the Coaching Committee.
John, also known as Big Toe, is a tour organizer extraordinaire and has been involved in world cup tours, Oktoberfest, the never to be repeated Ireland trips for many years plus others throughout the years.
Tom Feury – Tom joined Morris Rugby as a player in the 80’s. He went on to found Denville Dawgs Flag Rugby program in the summer of 1999 which led to the formation of the “American Flag Rugby” program which is still a huge part of the Morris Rugby Club with 8 town teams and over 600 kids taking part each summer.
Tom was also a very successful head coach of the High School Girls team taking the team to Nationals several times. He currently is a member of the Coaching Committee although beginning to take a well-earned step back from some of the activities.
Trish McEniry – Trish began playing rugby in college and when she found herself without a team to play with began to practice with the men's team. After recruiting some friends to come out and try the game and, with support from the men’s team, Trish began to build a women’s program. Founded in 1992 the women's team was initially a 7’s squad. the team travelled to their first tournament in Ontario, Canada, in 1994 where they won the consolation bracket.
Rich Cecchetti- The founder of Morris Rugby in 1977. Rich was not only involved as a player but also recruitment of players, coaches and worked to find field space at time when it was very limited. Rich was involved as a player and leader for many years including stepping up and returning as President in 1985 during a difficult time for the club.
