Uncertain Return to Rugby • Update from President Andrea Matthews
I’m sure everyone is excited about stores and outdoor dining opening on June 15th, I know I am. As you know Governor Murphy has also said that “effective June 22nd, sporting activities, including organized sporting activities, are permitted in outdoor settings only. Providing that they do not involve person-to-person contact or routinely entail individuals interacting within six feet of another.” Unfortunately, rugby doesn’t fall into the sporting activities allowed yet as stated above and is still prohibited in any setting. I know this is disappointing for everyone, but Morris Rugby must continue to adhere to local and state regulations and follow guidelines from USA Rugby, Empire GU and Rugby NJ when we are allowed to begin practices and games again. Please remember Mennen and Pocono Road fields are owned by the Morris County Parks Commission and Denville Township Parks department respectively and it is important that we follow the Executive order from Governor Murphy when using the fields. This also ensures we are covered by the required liability insurance we must have for all activities. I know this is disappointing but hopefully we can get out on the pitch again soon. Stay Healthy, Andrea Matthews |
