Message From The Current Morris Rugby President
Thanks………giving
Hello to everyone in the Morris Rugby family. For those that don’t know me I have been President of the corporation that oversees all the playing sides for almost 2 years and have one more year to go on my term. I have had a great fall watching all our tackle sides compete. Starting in early September when our high school boys and girls competed in the statewide 7’s series right up to last weekend when our men’s side put up over 70 points on local rival Montclair to finish the fall undefeated. The great thing about watching the men was seeing how many former youth players are now contributing to our senior side which btw will be celebrating a 40-year anniversary in 2017. Between all that I got to see the first ever girls u14 match in NJ, got to see our improving women’s side play as well as our swarm of u12 and u14 players take the pitch. I have been working behind the scenes with the corp to grow this great game locally since 2000 when I started the Montville flag program and joined the trustees but I have never been more excited than I am now about the future of our club. We have taken great steps recently to improve our communication and team registration processes, we are putting more money into coaching development and with the new Board of Advisors that was formed this year we are taking a longer term look at what else will be needed to make our product better at every level for kids, parents, players and coaches from flag right up through middle and high school rugby and on to our senior sides.
As it is the season for giving I wanted to point out that one of our own recently presented Morris Rugby with a check from them and their companies matching funds program. I assume many of our players’ parents and perhaps players themselves work for corporations with similar programs. If this is so, please speak to us about setting something up that could benefit the long-term health of Morris Rugby.
As I head into what will be my 17th and final year of administrative responsibility I would be remiss if I didn’t ask our growing pool of talented rugby lovers to please consider stepping forward to lend a hand to help keep the clubs healthy with new ideas and new energy. We have board positions, trustee positions, individual team needs. We are looking to certify more referees and coaches too. You don’t need to be a former player as we need people with 501c3 financial and legal experience. We need people who have managed teams or leagues in other sports to potentially run our flag programs….in short if you have experience in other fields and can give back we need you. Please call me or email and we can discuss
