RIDGE FLAG RUGBY
The Ridge Flag Rugby league had its inaugural season in 2016 and we had great feedback from parents and kids with 40+ flag players participating across all age groups. We were also very fortunate to have had several parent coaches with great rugby experience. Season two is shaping up to be successful as well.
It stemmed from an enthusiasm within Bernards Township from the inaugural season of the Ridge Rugby Club which kicked off in 2015. The Ridge Rugby team is for high-school age boys living in Bernards Township, and is a member of USA Rugby (www.usarugby.org(link is external)) and New Jersey Rugby (www.sbronj.com(link is external)), one of USA Rugby’s State-Based Rugby Organizations for youth development.
2017 Season Overview
6 week season beginning June 12th and running through July 22nd
Practices are Monday and Wednesday 6-7:30 at the Ridge Rugby Club fields in Basking Ridge (VA fields).
Coaches are parent volunteers and they are assisted by high school players from Ridge Rugby Club. Our high school boys were surprised by how much fun they had coaching the younger teams and the flag players really liked having younger coaches help out. We emphasize rugby fundamentals and having fun.
Games are played tournament-style on Saturdays. Teams play several short games which provides a lot of action and many touches on the ball. Saturday game days usually run from 9-12.
We know that many families have vacations and other commitments during this time. It is not a problem if your child will miss a weekend or a practice or start the season late, just be sure to update TeamSnap with their availability.
The flag league looks to provide a foundation of knowledge and generate enthusiasm and passion for the sport of rugby. Sign up today and be a part of something new and exciting. Sign up today and Give Rugby a try!!
